Local Enfield MP gets the JJ tour!

Updated: Feb 26

JJ Food Service welcomed MP Joan Ryan to its Enfield head quarters this week to support her mission to promote and develop local businesses.

Ms. Ryan said she is involved in developing the transport infrastructure in Enfield to reduce congestion and improve journeys to work for thousands in the area.

Group General Manager at JJ Food Service, Terry Larkin, said the business is already investing in a more sustainable future. “Transport will see tremendous changes in the next few years,” he said. “We will lead the way for other businesses by trialling new, smaller vehicles which are fitted with cameras to monitor traffic and driver stress levels. Calmer drivers mean safer driving conditions, which benefits everyone involved.”

Chief Executive of the Federation of Wholesale Distributors (FWD), James Bielby, who helped host the visit, raised the impact of Brexit on wholesale. “The flexible labour market is a potential challenge for members. We are working with Government to try to retain as many of the benefits of EU membership as possible.”

Ms. Ryan said improving Enfield’s transport infrastructure would play a vital role in making the area a more attractive place to work. She said there is a “big future” for Enfield particularly as it is home to London’s second largest industrial estate.

JJ used the meeting to raise awareness of its recruitment drive, which is currently looking for the next generation of branch managers. Mr. Larkin said: “We opened three new branches at the end of last year and our expansion plans will continue this year. We have a culture of promoting within – many of our managers started out at ground level – so we are recruiting across the board, from warehouse and drivers to purchasing and telesales. You don’t need experience, just drive and passion.”

The information shared by JJ Food Service and FWD will be used in Ms. Ryan’s work into supporting local businesses in Enfield, as well as informing her work in Parliament.
