Updated: Feb 26

JJ Foodservice has won the prestigious IGD Award for Supply Chain Excellence sponsored by Newton.

Last week (Thursday, 7th November), nearly 500 food and consumer goods colleagues gathered at the IGD Awards to raise a toast to the industry’s achievements over the last 12 months.

JJ Foodservice received the industry accolade as its supply chain excellence has helped its business grow, become more efficient and enhance team capabilities. Its innovations have changed business performance and made a material difference to caterers.

Chief Operating Officer at JJ Foodservice, Mushtaque Ahmed (pictured above, centre) said: “This is an incredible achievement for our team – we would like to thank the judges and everyone involved in developing the Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) feature, which has helped to dramatically improve service for our customers.”

Tim Murray, Director at Newton Europe, and category sponsor said: “In judging this award, we were looking for a team that put customers first and found innovative solutions to traditional issues within the supply chain.

“JJ Foodservice demonstrated both of these qualities in abundance, alongside dedicated teamwork and a real passion for its service and pride in the improvements it has made.

“Disrupting a traditional market with new ideas is no mean feat, but JJ Foodservice’s ETA notification system has fundamentally changed the experience for its customers and the efficiency of its business.

“Its delivery window has shrunk from four hours to as little as 10 minutes, allowing their customers to better plan their time. It’s also meant customers are ready and waiting when the JJ Foodservice vehicle arrives.

“We were particularly impressed with the team’s ability to innovate and collaborate, at the same time as working hard to overcome plenty of potential barriers to their product’s success.”

Susan Barratt, CEO at IGD said: “Even in a particularly challenging external climate, the food industry continues to offer shoppers fresh ideas and great service. All the teams who attended the ceremony are developing first-class products, building responsive supply chains and creating inspirational ways to shop.”

About the IGD Awards

The majority of the IGD Awards’ winners were selected by a panel of industry experts, including representatives from IGD and companies from across the food and grocery supply chain. The exception was three shopper-voted categories – the IGD Food-to-Go Operator of the Year, the IGD Online Retailer of the Year and the IGD Retailer of the Year – voted entirely independently by British shoppers through IGD’s ShopperVista service. IGD is a research and training charity which sits at the heart of the food and grocery industry. It has a trading subsidiary that provides commercial services. The profits from these commercial services fund the charity.
