JJ Foodservice has reported record sales as the eating out market picks up and home consumers continue to shop in bulk.
For four weeks in August 2020, total sales at JJ increased by 9.27% compared with the same period, the previous year.
JJ Foodservice picked up thousands of new customers after launching a business-to-consumer service at the start of the pandemic.
“We reacted immediately to the lockdown with the launch of our Next Day Home delivery service”, said COOr for JJ, Mushtaque Ahmed.
Smaller pack sizes were launched to help households to reduce waste and a Same Day Delivery service was offered in selected parts of London.
“We placed quantity limits on essential items like toilet rolls and hand wash, to allow more customers to buy and reduce panic buying.”
Shoppers quickly turned to us as an alternative supplier and many have stayed loyal after realising the benefits of bulk buying.
The JJ team made a ‘Thank You’ video during the lockdown
“We didn’t profiteer”, said Mushtaque. “By not increasing our prices – we have built trust with customers and many have stayed with us.”
Growth in Foodservice
Meanwhile, our new restaurant customers have also increased.
“We have worked hard over the past five months to maintain a robust and reliable supply chain.”
As a result, many of the restaurants and takeaways who were trading over the lockdown period turned to JJ.
“After trying us out – many have decided to stay,” he said.
The Government’s Eat Out to Help Out initiative has helped to restore consumer confidence in dining out.
But it’s the hard work of the hospitality sector that’s helping to keep people out.
“Attractive takeaway offers and new click and collect services – these are just some of the ways restaurants are adapting to the new normal,” he said.

Many takeaways got their own online ordering system with JJ’s sister-company FOODit
“We are by no means out of the woods but to get this far under unprecedented circumstances is a great achievement.
“We would like to thank our customers and team for their dedication, hard work and loyalty.”
