15 Minutes with Michaela

Updated: Feb 23

Introducing Michaela…our credit control supervisor in Enfield.

Michaela started in Telesales and has progressed quickly to be one of our youngest ever supervisors at just 21 years old. Read her story below as part of our staff spotlight series.

Having joined the JJ family when she turned 18, Michaela started off in telesales for two weeks. She then moved downstairs to serve our customers on the front counter, where she stayed for a year. Whilst studying for an accounting qualification, a position arose for a credit controller and Michaela jumped at the chance!

“A 19-year-old would not get this opportunity, it was something I could progress in, so I applied and was taken on,” says Michaela who has since been in the role for seven years.

Training newcomers

Day-to-day Michaela works closely with the drivers and cashiers to ensure payments are up to date. “As we are a small team, we have a system implemented to stay on top of everything – emails, phone calls, invoices, credit notes…We don’t let the work lay around or hang onto things.”

As part of her supervisor title, Michaela also trains new members of staff, as well as assisting other branches with training too, as they all report to our Enfield team.

Michaela was promoted to supervisor at just 21 years old, a huge accomplishment. She was the youngest member in her department at the time and has learned a lot along the way.

When asked what advice she would give others looking to progress, Michaela says “Ask questions, learn new things, and don’t get too comfortable.”

Always learning

“I always ask my boss what he would do in certain situations and build on my knowledge to progress even further. There’s always something to keep us on our toes in credit control, whether its new IT systems or customers coming across different issues.”

Michaela says her main motivation at JJ is the team she works with, “The people have kept me going at JJ’s. There’s a lot of people, like me, that stay a long time because they like the people they work with. It’s also great that we are given the opportunity to progress.”

When she’s not at work, Michaela loves spending time with her family, eating good food (her favourite is Chinese!) and reading. Her favourite JJ product is the Pistachio Dream Cake.

Lastly, when asked if she would recommend JJ Foodservice as an employer, Michaela said “Yes, it’s a great starting place to work and build yourself up. We give opportunities to a lot of people and it’s such a great place to start your journey.”
